Yard 9 will be giving a key note on the ‘Design of Medical Devices’ at the Future Trends & Coopetition in “Medical Device and Equipment Sector” Conference 18 October 2012 a the  Turkish Patent Institute in Ankara. Gijs Ockeloen, industrial designer who has been designing medical equipment since 1988, will share the Yard 9 approach to medical design which boils down to a Copernican belief in addressing the patient in all development steps whether the product itself, the underlying business case, the serviceability, the material selection or any other aspect of this truly multi-disciplinary, multi stake holder field. Medical Devices must be among the more 'bodily' products that we produce: most of them are to be operated in close proximity to, or even inside a human. Yet, the alien visitor of a Medical Device trade fair would probably not be able to tell by looking at these products. At Yard9 we have been developping a broad range of devices, equipment and instruments and found that the medical industry is driven by technological innovations providing opportunities for diagnosis and therapy, large institutional clients that own and maintain these products and professional users that are sensitive to status and image effects of these products. There are many more stakeholders but the patient is strangely absent and seems to be limited to appear in brochures, advertising and, off course,  the company payoff. This has been a aberration for a long time but current developments and trends such as patient operated devices, home healthcare, patientdata ownership and the transition from product into services are putting severe pressure on the industry

Gijs Ockeloen, industrial designer who has been designing medical equipment since 1988, will share the Yard9 approach to medical design which boils down to a Copernican belief in adressing the patient in all development steps whether the product itself, the underlying business case, the serviceability, the material selection or any other aspect of this truely multi disciplinary, multi stake holder field.
